The Basics of Salvation
- Eternal life is a free gift! It is not earned or deserved (Romans 6:23, Ephesians 2:8-9).
- But we are all sinful and cannot save ourselves (Romans 3:23).
- God is loving and doesn't want to punish us (I John 4:8).
- However, God is just, and therefore must punish sin (Hebrews 9:27).
- So, He sent His son Jesus Christ to bear our sin on the cross and pay our penalty (I John 2:2).
All you have to do is:
- Transfer your trust from what you have been doing to earn your way to heaven, to what Christ has done for you on His cross.
- Accept Christ as Savior and Lord of your life (Revelation 3:20).
- Ask for forgiveness and turn away from your sin (Romans 10:10, 13).
- Pray this suggested prayer:
"Jesus Christ, I know that I am sinful and do not deserve eternal life. But, I believe You died and rose from the grave to purchase a place in Heaven for me. Lord
Jesus, come into my life, and take control of my life; forgive my sins. I confess them and now place my trust in You for my salvation. I accept your free gift of eternal life, and thank you for it. Help me to live this new life for you."
